Kaziba’s lads score late for the second consecutive home game to secure maximum points against Kitara.

Following on from a motivating Wednesday display against Wakiso Giants, the team came it into matchday 8 against Kitara well aware of the threat a bottom side can pose to us as it was on matchday 6 versus MYDA.

The beginning of the game was intense as both sides wanted to take an early advantage. The visitors drew the first blood in the 12th minute when a cross from the left-wing of our defence was met by a fast-approaching forward. He tapped the ball through the legs of Saidi Keni, past the goal line to give the visitors the lead.

Villa pressed for an equaliser throughout the first half but all the attempts were not fruitful. The game went into the half time break with the visitors leading 1-0. Villa had no single shot on target in the first period of the game.

In the second period, Villa started from where they had stopped in the first half: we further attacked. SC Villa found the equaliser 5 minutes into the second half when Nicholas Kabonge capitalised on a loose ball which was spilled into his path by the opposition goalkeeper.

20 minutes later, right-back Joseph Nsubuga gave Villa the lead from a spot-kick. The spot-kick was awarded to us after Emmanuel Alex Wasswa was shoved in the box. Wasswa had raised the highest in the area to head the ball but was fouled in the process.

After falling behind, Kitara became more ambitious in the attack. In the 85th minute, they caught the Villa defence off guard and managed to find an equaliser. A cross from the right was headed into the net to give the visitors a leveller in the dying minutes of the game.

The game looked like it was headed for a draw, the Jogoos were on the verge of dropping their first home points this season but the lads never gave up. More Drama in the game unfolded when a defence-splitting pass was played to substitute Faizo Kazibwe. Kazibwe managed to out power an advancing defender, drove the ball forward into the Kitara box and slotted it between the goalkeeper and the far left post of the goal to give Villa the 4th home win of the season.

The Jogoos are now 6th with 14 points from 8 games. We return to action on 23rd February 2021 away to Busoga United.
