Fresh from a solid 0-3 away win to Ndejje, Edward Kaziba’s team return to league action in a Derby at home against eternal rivals Express F.C on Wednesday evening at 4 pm.
The Biggest Derby in the land returns tomorrow. It is always a very unique game, an encounter everyone is always eagerly waiting for. The Villa-Express duel is a game everyone primarily looks for on the League fixtures when they are released. Victory and pride are at stake, with victory comes the bragging rights.
Last season in the same fixture, Emmanuel Wasswa scored the sole goal which gave us victory in Bombo and complete a league double over Express.
When both sides met this season on Matchday 5 at Muteesa II Stadium, Express dominated proceedings and walked away the better side on the day.
This second round fixture provides us with an opportunity to avenge the first-round loss to Express.
Express are in 3rd position on the league log 7 points adrift of the Jogoos in 6th position. A win for the Jogoos reduces the deficit to two points and propels the team further up the league table.
Express come into this fixture on the back of a 1-0 home win against Kyetume in the Uganda Cup.
In the league, Express beat table-toppers URA F.C on matchday 16.
Bombo Military Barracks Grounds remains the only away stadium where Express has neither scored nor won during this campaign.
Express last completed a league double against SC Villa in the 2013/14 season.
Express will be without Murushid Juuko who is suspended for the Derby.
League Form: WWDLW
Having missed out on the Uganda Cup Round of 32 2nd leg win over Ndejje with a knock, lanky left-back Derrick Ndahiro will have to pass a late fitness test in order to make the team for the derby.
Ronald Ssekiganda returns having sat out the win away to MYDA due to a suspension as a result of accumulated yellow cards.
Central midfielder Amir Kakomo and goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige will sit out this Derby due to a suspension because of accumulated yellow cards.
Benson Muhindo continues his rehabilitation.
“Since we have 3 key games in the coming 7 days, how we manage the players’ physical wellbeing is very crucial. And for that reason, after our Uganda Cup game, we did full recovery training yesterday and today we did some practical work.
“The players are in a very good mood. The Uganda Cup win uplifted each one’s morale and we are ready for tomorrow’s game both physically and mentally.
“Tomorrow’s game is a Derby, and everyone on my team both the players and coaches know how momentous it is to win it. Given that we lost in the first round, tomorrow gives us an opportunity to pay them back in the same currency.
“Derbies are for winning: We come into tomorrow’s derby to win.”
