Gavin Kizito captains the Uganda Hippos to the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Mauritania.
Highly rated Centre Back, Gavin Kizito, 18, made his SC Villa senior debut last season in a home draw against Vipers. The same season he debuted for the Cubs, the national U-17 side which he captained in CECAFA and AFCON competitions.
Kizito captained the Hippos side in a do or die semi-final clash yesterday versus Kenya at the Black Rhino Academy Stadium in Karatu, Arusha. The team defeated Kenya 3-1 to not only confirm their place in the tournament final but also at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Mauritania. Goals were scored by Kenneth Ssemakula and Ivan Bogere who found the net twice.
“I thank God for enabling us win this semi-final tie against Kenya, the scores may have been 3-1 but it was not an easy game at all. This win means that we have qualified for the U-20 AFCON,” said Gavin Kizito shortly after the game.
The Hippos will play the reigning champions Tanzania who also double as hosts in the final slated for tomorrow at the Rhino Academy Stadium. About the final, Kizito said,“We are going to work hard so that we bring the trophy home to Uganda.”
Captain Gavin Kizito is confident that the Uganda Hippos will emerge victorious from the 2020 CECAFA U20 Championship and touch down Mauritania early next year as the regional champions.
“As a club, we are very happy for Gavin. We can see the fruits of our labour that one of us who graduated from the Junior Side to the Senior Team performing so well and leading U-20 National Team. Gavin was created to lead and play football, we are not surprised and we have high hopes in him,” said Phillip Ssozi, Head Coach, SC Villa Junior Team.
