SC Villa Welcome Byron Okuba as New Strength & Conditioning Coach

SC Villa is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Byron Okuba as the club’s new Strength & Conditioning Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Byron is an elite sports performance specialist, certified World Rugby Educator, and architectural professional based in Kampala, Uganda. Renowned for blending the precision of structural design with cutting-edge sports science, he has established himself as one of East Africa’s leading high-performance practitioners.

As the founder of Forge Performance, Byron champions a data-driven approach to athlete development, utilizing advanced performance technologies such as VALD ForceDecks and speed gates to enhance speed, power, movement efficiency, and injury prevention. His work has been instrumental in raising performance standards across the region by introducing objective, evidence-based training methods.

Speaking after his appointment, Byron expressed his excitement about joining the Jogoos:

It is an immense privilege to join SC Villa, the most decorated club in Ugandan football. I look forward to working alongside the club’s outstanding technical and medical teams to optimize athlete readiness, maximize performance, and build the physical resilience needed to compete at the highest level.

Byron’s high-performance philosophy has contributed to championship success at both club and international level. He played a key role in the achievements of Stanbic Black Pirates RFC and the Uganda National Women’s Rugby Team (Lady Cranes XVs), helping both sides secure multiple major honours.

His diverse experience also includes a previous stint with URA FC and grassroots athlete development through the Tag Rugby Trust. Beyond football and rugby, Byron has worked with elite athletes across several disciplines, including competitive swimming and international rowing, earning a reputation for developing robust, resilient, and high-performing athletes.

Everyone at SC Villa warmly welcomes Byron Okuba to the club and wishes him every success in the blue and white as preparations for the 2026/27 season continue.

First Blood in the Transfer Window: John Asiimwe is a Jogoo!

SC Villa is delighted to announce the signing of promising left winger John Asiimwe, who becomes the club’s first acquisition ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 17-year-old has penned a three-year contract with the record Uganda Premier League champions as the Jogoos continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

Asiimwe joins SC Villa after spending the last two seasons at Express FC. A graduate of the Uganda Cubs side that represented the country at the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year, he is regarded as one of Uganda’s brightest young talents.

Before joining Express, Asiimwe developed his game at Prosper Soccer Academy and also featured for Bukedea Comprehensive School during the USSSA Games, where he showcased his immense potential.

Speaking after completing his move, the youngster expressed his excitement about joining the Jogoos.

“I am glad to have joined Uganda’s best champions. It’s a pleasure for me to be here, and I can’t wait to create great memories with this wonderful club.”

Everyone at SC Villa warmly welcomes John to the club and wishes him every success as he begins this exciting new chapter in his career.

Welcome to the Jogoos, John!

Laying the Foundation: SC Villa Unveils New Era for Youth and Talent Development

SC Villa continues to take bold steps toward building a sustainable future, with a clear focus on nurturing young talent and strengthening its football structure over the next five years under the stewardship of Hajji Omar Mandela.

As part of this vision, the club has prioritized the development of a strong youth and reserve system that will serve as the foundation for the next generation of Jogoo stars.

Head Coach Nebojsa Kapoor

To lead this initiative, Nebojsa Kapoor has been appointed Head Coach of the Young Jogoos and the reserve side, Wembly FC, who compete in the Kampala Regional League. His role will be central in identifying, developing, and preparing emerging talents for the senior team.

Goalkeeping Coach Benjamin Ochan

Further strengthening the technical setup, former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan has joined the youth structure as the club’s goalkeeping tactician. Ochan, who earned 23 caps for Uganda national football team, retired from active football in January after a stint with NEC FC. A former SC Villa player during the 2011/12 season under Mike Mutebi, he also enjoyed a successful spell with KCCA FC, where he won three league titles. His experience, combined with his role on the FUFA Academies League Organising Committee, adds immense value to the club’s youth development agenda.

Also joining the technical team is Sulaiman Matovu, who takes on a dual role as a trainer within both the youth setup and the senior team. Popularly known as “Malouda,” Matovu brings a wealth of experience from a career that saw him rise through Proline FC to represent the Uganda national football team, before playing internationally for St. George SC, Erbil SC, BK Häcken, and Kaizer Chiefs. He joined SC Villa in January 2025 on a one-year contract and has since transitioned into coaching following his retirement earlier this year.
