The Jogoos host long-time rivals Express FC in a much-anticipated derby at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 9th September 2026.
The fixture, regarded as Uganda’s oldest derby, will be a major focus for SC Villa as they look to continue their strong recent form in the rivalry. Since 2016 — ten years of head-to-head meetings — the two sides have faced off 21 times, with the Jogoos leading 11 wins to Express’s 4, while 6 matches have ended level.
TEAM NEWS
The Jogoos will be without midfielder Najib Yiga, who remains in rehabilitation, and Isaac Mpagi Kajubi, who was sent off in their previous fixture on the road against URA FC. However, the team welcomes back midfielder Aslam Semakula. Left-back Simon Ssemayange will undergo a late fitness test to determine his availability for the matchday squad. Former Express FC player John Asiimwe will be eager to test himself against his old employers when the two sides meet in the derby

A derby is a derby, it doesn’t matter what time it comes, but we’re ready to fight for the three points. We just have to focus on the coach’s instructions and take our pace. This isn’t my first derby, but I know even the new ones will have to fit in — it’s always intense, but we shall focus on winning the day.

A derby is always a good game to showcase experience and talent , And because of that we have to be focused tomorrow. They (express fc) are a good team ,they brought in some experienced players it will not be such an easy Game but we’re ready.We have some players out with Najib and Isaac, and that will give a chance to the juniors to also be active tomorrow.
